What is Ironworker Dies and Punch?

Ironworker Dies and punches are hardened tool sets that work together in the Iron working machine’s punching station to cut precise holes (round, square, oblong, etc.) or create specific shapes, like notches and flanges, in metal plates and bars by forcing the punch through the material, supported by the die’s cavity, enabling clean, efficient metal fabrication for various profiles. The ironworker tooling material has various for option : Cr12Mov, SKD11, DA53, 60Si2Mn.

The tools include Standard punches and dies and custom tooling:

  • Punches & Dies: Round, oblong, square, and hex shapes.
  • Shear Blades: Precision-ground blades for flat bar, angle, and coper notchers.
  • Custom tooling: Special shape for a unique project

How does the Ironwoker dies and punches Work?

The Punch: A hardened, shaped tool that moves downward into the metal.
The Die: A stationary, hardened tool with a matching cavity or opening that supports the workpiece and provides the shape for the punch to cut against.

The Process: When the ironworker is working under the hydraulic pressure, the punch is driven into the material, pressing it into the die’s opening, cleanly shearing out a slug of metal and leaving a perfectly shaped hole or profile.

Why Express Shipping is a Game Changer for US Fabricators

In the past, ordering specialized industrial tooling from overseas meant weeks of sea freight and navigating complex customs hurdles. By 2025, the global supply chain has evolved. We now leverage premium express carriers (like DHL, FedEx, and UPS) to bridge the gap between our manufacturing base and your workshop.

The Benefits Include:

  • Door-to-Door Delivery: From our factory directly to your shop floor in any US state—from Texas to New York.
  • Speed: Most express shipments arrive within 3 to 7 days.
  • Customs Simplified: We handle the documentation to ensure your tools clear US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) without unnecessary delays.
  • Real-Time Tracking: Know exactly where your ironworker dies and punches, and blades are at every moment.

Tonnage & Clearance

Every tool we ship to the United States is manufactured from premium H13 or S7 tool steel, vacuum-hardened to ensure maximum longevity. We understand that American fabricators require ironworker dies and punches that can handle heavy-gauge structural steel daily.

To operate a hydraulic ironworker safely and efficiently, you must balance two critical factors: the tonnage (force) required to make the cut and the clearance (gap) between the punch and the die

1. Tonnage Calculation (How much force?)

Tonnage = Diameter  x Thicknessx 80

Example: To punch a hole diameter 1/2″, thickness plate: 1/4″ mild steel

(Tonnage Capacity: 0.05×0.25×80=10 tons required)

2. Die Clearance (The gap between tools)

Clearance is the difference in size between the punch and the die. Proper clearance ensures a clean “break” in the metal, reducing burrs and tool wear.

Most ironworker operators use a standard 1/32″ (0.8mm) total clearance for mild steel between 1/4″ and 1/2″ thick.

Material-Specific Clearance Percentages: For precision or different materials, calculate clearance as a percentage of Material Thickness (MT):

  • Mild Steel: 15% to 20% of MT
  • Stainless Steel: 20% to 25% of MT
  • Aluminum: 10% to 15% of MT

Quick Reference Chart (Mild Steel):

| Material Thickness | Suggested Total Clearance | Die Size (for 1/2″ Punch) |
